Osprey
Osprey Cruises’ journey began in 1971 and grew into Osprey Fishing Trips in 1995 with Osprey 1 at Pier 19 on South Padre Island. This 70′ boat is designed to carry fishermen and spectators up to 100 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Initially, the business was engaged solely in offshore fishing activities, pelagic tours, and bird watching.

In 1998, we became active in bay fishing, sightseeing, eco tours, and dolphin watching with the addition of Bay King and Osprey 2.
The Black Dragon pirate ship
As the public demand for themed entertainment cruises grew, and the “Pirate” craze grew, we launched the Black Dragon in 2008. This pirate ship is an authentic recreation of a 17th century Spanish galleon. With a full crew of professional “pirates” directed by Ruby, our Pirate Queen, the Black Dragon quickly became one of the major attractions on the Texas gulf coast. We’ve hosted everyone from new-borns to 90-year-olds, and also visitors from 28 countries. With this successful fleet of ships, we have the honor of hosting special occaisions such as birthdays and weddings. In 2010, Black Dragon was voted one of the 10 best cruises in the USA. She is moored at our Port Isabel location, Pirate’s Landing.
Sea Life Safari Cruises
As demand for sight-seeing and pleasure cruises further developed, we converted Osprey 1 into a pleasure cruise boat outfitting her with a high fidelity sound system, trawling gear, and noise suppressors and other amenities. This helps us provide a new kind of dolphin watch/sight-seeing/nature cruise that guarantees dolphin sightings and offers insight into the history and ecology of South Padre Island. We aim to present the most interesting and informative cruise in Texas.
The Thriller
Our most recent attraction is Thriller, a high speed 55′ off shore racer, powered by 1000 horses with speeds approaching 50 mph. This boat trip combines the thrill of speed over water, always a spine tingling activity with sight-seeing. We believe Thriller is the only passenger-carrying water craft in Texas that can outrun the bottlenosed dolphin (top speed of 35 MPH) as well as most water birds.
A total experience
We also operate gift shops at both Pier 19 and Pirate’s Landing. At each, you’ll find some very interesting and unusual jewelry and pirate-themed merchandise, as well as a selection of specialty apparel, souvenirs, and other gifts.
